Rozz Williams - the cult

With the burden of a stagnating band left behind, Rozz put his creative energy into a couple of solo-projects that provoked attention in different ways. "Heltir" and "Premature Ejaculation" were marked by a strong focus on visual elements and mixed dissonant and stirring sound collages with performance art. On the other hand, the creative partnership with Eva O. turned out to be quite straightforward and resulted in the band "Shadow Project" whose musical output had a lot in common with early Christian Death.

A lot of other artistic activities illustrate the apparently contradictory character of Rozz Williams: The quiet collaboration with Gitane Demone on "Dream Home Heartache", Daucus Karota, the noisy EXP, or - come full circle - the weird underground film "Pig", a collaboration between Rozz and brother-in-mind Nico B. "Pig" confronts with minimalist starkness and creates a morbid aura. The film lacks dialogues, but is enhanced by eerie sound fragments, created by Rozz Williams. The discussion of death is done in quite an unusual manner: "Pig" focuses on the morbid relationship between a murderer and his victim.

The fascination for death and decay may have led Rozz into suicide, but in Nico B. he has certainly found an excellent biographer. "From Christian Death to death" is (or indeed was) available as a limited edition featuring a 4-track CD with previously unreleased songs Rozz Williams left behind. Apart from a rework of "The Angels", there's the three piano pieces "Shadow Stand", "A Trophy Of Skin" and "Lead Us Not", accompanied by spoken (rather than sung) lyrics by Rozz Williams.
